About the Conference

Where Language Teaching Comes Alive

The 8th China TCI Conference brings together English teachers from across China and language educators from around the world for four transformative days of learning, sharing, and connection.

Hosted by Gogolearning 教师成长学苑 and held at the beautiful Hangzhou Yungu School, this year's conference theme — Meaningful Connections, Meaningful Teaching — invites us to reflect on what it truly means to teach with comprehensible input: not just as a method, but as a philosophy of care.

Since 2018, the China TCI Conference has grown into one of the most influential language teaching gatherings in Asia, bringing together a global community united by a shared belief: that language is acquired, not learned by force.

Discover Hangzhou

Where Tradition Meets Innovation

To our dear friends from all over the world — welcome to Hangzhou! The Gogolearning team is so excited to have you here in one of the most extraordinary cities in China.

Hangzhou has captivated visitors for over two millennia. Marco Polo, who passed through in the 13th century, called it "the finest and most splendid city in the world" — and once you've walked along West Lake at dusk, you'll understand exactly what he meant.

But Hangzhou is far more than its past. This is also the city that gave birth to Alibaba, earning it the nickname "China's Silicon Valley." Ancient tea terraces and cutting-edge tech campuses exist side by side here — and somehow, it works beautifully.

During your time here, we hope you'll find a moment to sip freshly brewed Longjing tea, wander through the old streets of Hefang, and let the city surprise you in ways you didn't expect. Welcome — we're so glad you're here.

For International Guests

Coming to China for the First Time?

We've put together everything you need to know so you can arrive with confidence and focus on what matters — connecting and learning.

📱
VPN & Internet
Google, YouTube, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook are blocked in China. Download your VPN before you arrive — you cannot download it once inside China. Recommended: ExpressVPN, NordVPN, or Astrill. WeChat works for all communication during the conference.
Payment & Money
Before you leave home: Download WeChat and set up WeChat Pay using your passport and US bank card. This will be your primary payment tool throughout China — for restaurants, shops, taxis, and everything in between. Cash is rarely needed, but bring ¥300–500 RMB as emergency backup. Most international credit cards are not accepted at everyday venues.
WeChat & SIM Card
Install WeChat before arrival — it's how everyone communicates in China, including our conference team. Consider buying a local SIM card at the airport for affordable data, or activate international roaming with your carrier.
Getting Around
DiDi (China's Uber) has an English interface and accepts international cards. Use Amap (高德地图) or Baidu Maps for navigation — both are more accurate than Google Maps in China. Taxis are also widely available; show your destination on your phone.
🍜
Food in Hangzhou
Hangzhou cuisine is light, slightly sweet, and very foreigner-friendly. Must-try: West Lake Vinegar Fish (西湖醋鱼), Dongpo Pork (东坡肉), Longjing Shrimp (龙井虾仁). Please let us know in advance if you have dietary restrictions (halal, vegetarian, allergies).
🌤️
Weather in July
Hangzhou in July is hot and humid — expect 33–37°C (91–99°F). Pack light, breathable clothing, sunscreen, and a small umbrella. The post-rainy season may bring occasional afternoon showers. Indoor venues are well air-conditioned.
🏨
Hotel Check-in
All foreign guests must present their original passport at check-in — a photocopy is not accepted. Hotel WiFi is available but you'll still need a VPN to access blocked sites. The hotel features full smart-room technology including face-recognition entry.
🏥
Safety & Health
China is very safe — violent crime is rare. We recommend purchasing travel insurance with medical coverage before departure. Our conference coordinator will have emergency contact information and basic first-aid resources on site.
